How to choose the right desk
Check desk height
You must match the desk height to your chair and posture needs. The SAFAVIEH Haven sits at 30 inches, a standard height for most writing tasks. The SAFAVIEH Landon reaches 41 inches, which is unusually tall for a standard office desk. This extra height may require a taller chair or specific ergonomic adjustments. Verify your current chair’s seat height range before buying. A mismatch can cause shoulder strain or poor posture over time. Measure your space to ensure the taller model fits vertically.
Compare drawer counts
Drawer quantity directly impacts your storage capacity and organization style. The Haven includes two drawers, suitable for basic supplies like pens and paper. The Landon features five drawers, offering significantly more space for files and equipment. If you have many documents, the five-drawer model reduces clutter on the surface. Fewer drawers mean a cleaner look but less hidden storage. Decide how much you need to hide versus display. More drawers add weight and complexity to the unit.
Assess material choice
Material affects durability, weight, and aesthetic compatibility with your room. The Haven is made of solid wood, providing a sturdy and classic feel. The Landon uses wood construction, which also offers robustness but in a different finish. Solid wood often resists warping better than composite materials. Check the material specification to ensure it matches your office style. Wood finishes like matte black or quartz grey change the room’s visual tone. Consider how the material complements your existing furniture pieces.
Measure floor space
Desk width determines how much surface area you have for work. The Haven is 42 inches wide, offering a moderate workspace. The Landon is 36 inches wide, which is narrower but still functional. Depth is similar for both, around 19 inches. Ensure your room has enough clearance for the chair to move back. A wider desk allows for dual monitors or more equipment. Measure your wall space carefully to avoid a cramped feeling in small home offices.
Consider weight capacity
Product weight indicates sturdiness and installation difficulty. The Haven weighs 35 pounds, making it easier to move if needed. The Landon weighs 44 pounds, suggesting a heavier, more stable build. Heavier units are less likely to wobble during use. However, they are harder to relocate during cleaning or rearrangement. Check if you need to assemble the desk yourself. Heavier items may require two people for safe assembly. Ensure your floor can support the static weight comfortably.
